How Tinggalan Adil Came to Be
Tinggalan Adil was established in Penang by a practitioner who had spent years observing how inheritance matters — when handled without care — could fracture families already under strain. The name itself is a statement of purpose: an estate administered with fairness and deliberation, in the spirit of what was truly intended by the person who left it.
The practice opened its George Town office in the early 2000s, concentrating from the outset on wills, probate, and the administration of estates. Over the years, the team grew to include practitioners familiar with the particular conditions of multi-cultural inheritance in Malaysia — where civil law, syariah requirements, and family arrangements frequently intersect in a single estate.
We do not pursue volume. Each file receives sustained attention. We are not a practice that issues instructions by letter and moves on — we stay with a matter until it is concluded properly.

How We Conduct Our Work
These are not policies posted on a wall. They are the actual working habits that have shaped the practice since it opened.
Malaysian Bar Membership
All legal work is conducted by advocates and solicitors holding current practising certificates issued by the Malaysian Bar.
Client Confidentiality
All information shared with this practice is protected under legal professional privilege. It is not disclosed without explicit client consent.
Clear Fee Agreements
Written fee agreements are issued before any substantive work begins. Scope, fees, and disbursements are set out plainly and agreed upon.
Coordination with Other Specialists
Where a matter requires a syariah practitioner, forensic accountant, or overseas correspondent, we identify and engage the right people — and remain responsible for the overall outcome.
Timely Client Updates
Clients receive updates at each meaningful stage of their matter. We do not leave families to wonder what is happening.
Plain-Language Documentation
Legal documents are accompanied by explanations in ordinary English so that clients understand — and genuinely agree with — what they are signing.
§ 3
Inheritance Law in Malaysia's Multicultural Context
Estate administration in Malaysia carries a particular set of considerations that distinguish it from jurisdictions where a single legal tradition governs all matters. A family in Penang may hold property under the National Land Code, operate joint accounts, hold EPF nominations, maintain takaful plans, and have property in Singapore or the United Kingdom — each governed by a different set of rules.
Tinggalan Adil has worked in this environment for over two decades. Our familiarity with the interplay between civil probate procedure, the Distribution Act 1958, and the requirements of syariah inheritance means that families receive advice that accounts for their actual circumstances, not a simplified version of them.
The Practice's Approach to Contested Estates
Dispute in an estate is more common than many families expect. Challenges to nominations, allegations concerning mental capacity, and questions about the fairness of a distribution can emerge even in close families. When they do, early legal advice shapes the outcome.
Our approach to contested matters begins with a thorough reading of the documents and a candid assessment of the strengths and limits of each position. We aim to resolve disputes at the earliest stage where resolution is possible, and to proceed to litigation only when necessary. Throughout, we remain conscious that the parties are often relatives — and that the practice's role is to conclude the matter, not to deepen the divisions.
