Chapter Two · Why This Firm

What Sets This Practice Apart

Inheritance matters carry weight that most legal work does not. We approach them accordingly.

Measured, Two-Stage Drafting

Wills are prepared in two stages so clients have time to reflect before signing — a deliberate choice that prevents regret.

Civil and Syariah Coordination

Estates that span both legal frameworks are handled correctly, working in tandem with qualified syariah practitioners.

Sensitivity to Grieving Families

We are mindful that most clients come to us in a difficult season. Our aim is to reduce, not add to, the emotional burden.

Cross-Border Estate Capacity

Overseas properties and multi-jurisdictional holdings do not unsettle this practice — we have the networks and experience to proceed.

Plain-Language Explanations

Legal documents are accompanied by explanations in plain English so that clients genuinely understand what they have agreed to.

Transparent Fee Structures

Our fees are stated clearly from the outset, allowing families to plan without the anxiety of an open-ended bill.

A Note to the Reader

A Conversation Costs Nothing

Many families wait too long to speak with a lawyer about their estate. An early, unhurried conversation can clarify a great deal — and spare considerable difficulty later.

Chapter Three · Frequently Asked

Common Questions

Do I need a will if I already have nominations in my EPF and insurance?

Nominations and joint accounts operate outside your estate and may not pass to those you intend. A will covers assets that fall within your estate and sits alongside, not in place of, your nominations. During a consultation we would map your full picture before recommending anything.

How long does probate administration usually take?

An uncomplicated estate without disputed claims or missing beneficiaries will typically take between six and eighteen months from the time we receive instructions. Estates involving property in multiple states, or those with creditor complications, may take longer. We give clients a realistic estimate once we have reviewed the papers.

We have assets in both Malaysia and overseas. Is that a problem?

Not inherently. Cross-border estates require more careful preparation and coordination with foreign correspondents, which affects the timeline and scope of work. We handle these regularly and are candid about what the process will involve.

One family member is contesting the estate. What should we do?

Contested matters require careful case preparation from the start. We would review the basis of the challenge, advise on whether early settlement is worth exploring, and represent the estate through proceedings if necessary. Early contact with us is important — what happens in the first weeks of a dispute can shape the rest of it.

How are fees calculated?

Our published fees cover the standard scope of each service. Where a matter turns out to be more complex — additional assets, caveat proceedings, court appearances — we discuss any revision with the client before proceeding. There are no surprises after the fact.

Is my family's information kept confidential?

Yes. All matters are held in strict professional confidence. Information is shared only with third parties directly required to advance the estate — courts, the National Land Registry, financial institutions — and only to the extent necessary.
